Is My Make Up Safe To Use in Pregnancy?Caroline Fenton
When you’re growing a new tiny human, it’s good to think about what you’re putting into your body, as well as what you are putting ON it! And that includes your daily slap routine :) There is no need to go ‘au naturale’ just because you’re sporting a bump… but it can be good to swap out some of your regulars for more natural and organic alternatives. IS MY MAKE UP SAFE TO USE IN PREGNANCY? Guest post from the lovely Liz at Shekinah Glow.
Going organic has some people in a tizzy.
What does it mean?
What will I look like?
Even more so, what will I smell like?!!
Some women feel overwhelmed with making the switch. Organic and natural in the past have been represented with a tree hugging ‘we live in the forest‘ kind of feel, and also possible smell (!). Then there is the unwashed hair, and not to mention, the not shaving, … I think you get the picture :)
But ladies this is simply not so!!
You can go organic and natural AND be glamorous as well. It is not a scary process at all!
I have my own beauty range which was a Godsend this last pregnancy. I’ve always enjoyed looking put together, but when my thyroid played up after my first daughter was born I had a bit of a time in the wilderness so to speak. It wasn’t safe to use normal products on my body as it would affect my hormone levels.
Is My Make Up Safe To Use in Pregnancy?
In a word (or two), not really! Most women are unaware that their beauty products are filled with hormone disrupters. This can be damaging to your body, and very unsafe for your baby’s development in your tummy.
Soooooo what to do?
Well for me, eventually I put my head to work and developed a range of products that I knew would love my body back. That really should be your motto for this year when it comes to any beauty products you use.
Does it love my body back?
Was it designed with my health in mind?
There are now so many amazing products out there for you to try and explore. For those that are worried about the costs, it is okay to make small changes at first. Some are things you can make yourself too.
Coconut oil is a great all over body moisturiser. If you like something with some scent, just add a few drops of your favourite essential oil and you will smell amazing. My favourite oils are Lavender and Rose Geranium oil.
Coconut oil can also be used in your hair. Got to love a multi use product! You don’t have to have a full cleanser, toner, moisturiser regime either. Water can easily clean your face and then coconut oil, avocado oil or jojoba oil will moisturise. There are a few that you can choose from.
Now when it comes to makeup, try changing things out slowly. Get to know your ingredients; especially you pregnant mums. Your bub is very important and we want to give it the best start possible. I am a mum of three, a 7 year old girl, a 5 year old boy, and my latest bundle of fun is now just one.
I can’t tell you how much I loved knowing that my skincare and makeup was baby safe. It is organic and natural, and ladies I was able to be pregnant, safe and organically glamorous… what could be better!?!
Valentine’s Day is just around the corner so get your hubby or partner to buy you some healthy beauty. It is the perfect time to change out just a few of your products for some healthier, safer alternatives!
