Hey Mama you’re still in there… Take time to re-connect with your old self.
It’s been a long time coming, but we’ve been getting to know the lovely Bettina and her two gorgeous boys, Eamon and Rory. You’ll mostly find her renovating or doing headstands on the beach… Bettina is a yogi by nature! We’re so lucky that she is sharing her talents and love of asanas to bring you a world of online yoga. This clever mama writes and teaches, as well as videos, so that any mum can have her fix of yoga even if it is just for 10 minutes a day!
When Bettina became a first time mummy she (like many of us!) felt that she’s lost her pre-mummy self. She loved her new role but didn’t realise quite how much of an impact it would have on her feeling of self. Now we all hear that self care is important, but not necessarily so easy! To come out of the overwhelm, re-connect and truly be able to enjoy motherhood… it’s no easy task! - So, tell us, who is @bettinarae?
Hmmmm… I’ve always struggled to answer these sorts of questions – because really all of these labels aren’t really ‘me’!! But… I’m a yoga teacher, wife, mum to two young boys, a women’s counsellor and writer.
- Can you describe your biz in 3 words.
Yoga. Mindfulness. Connection.
- Why do you do what you do?
I really struggled with motherhood in the early days. It flipped my world upside down, I didn’t know who I was anymore, and I felt lost and disconnected. Yoga is what helped me to reconnect and learn how to actually enjoy being a Mum.
4. What have been your best biz moments so far?
My best moments are always when I get an email from someone who has done one of my classes or listened to one of my talks and it has helped them overcome whatever they are struggling with.
5. What does a typical day look like for you?
In all honesty I don’t really have a typical day! I usually try to do a bit of my own yoga practice in the morning – even if it’s only ten minutes. But some days (especially if we’ve had a rough night) it doesn’t happen, and I sloth around on the couch instead. We tend to head to the beach or a park every day, some days playgroup, the library or catch up with friends. A couple of days a week I teach yoga classes at the studio while the boys are with my husband or sister-in-law. I also film classes for my online studio whenever I can fit it in around my husbands work. Editing and writing usually happens at nap-time, or when the boys are in bed of a night time. - What’s your ‘me time’ go to?
Probably no surprises that it’s yoga!! It’s rare these days that I actually get to a class as a student, so that’s the ultimate ‘me time’. I try to get to the studio for this about once every two weeks.
- What’s your favourite day of the week, and why?
That’s a tough one. My husband works shift work, so our weeks always change. But one day a week we usually have a ‘Sunday’ where we do no work and just hang out – so that would be my favourite day.
- What does your perfect date night (or day!) look like?
The perfect date night doesn’t need much other than really good conversation. When it flows and doesn’t revolve only around the kids! ;) Hey mama you’re still in there…
